Intelsat Lands U.S. Army SATCOM Contract
**Intelsat**, one of the world's largest satellite and terrestrial networks, recently entered into an agreement with the US military to provide terrestrial communications (SATCOM) as a managed service (SaaMS) to usher in a new era of multi-orbit satellite communications.
**Rick** **Henry**, vice president of business operations for Intelsat's government solutions division, said that as the largest provider of SATCOM services, Intelsat is committed to meeting the needs of the military and understands the requirements for an innovative managed subscription service. The program aims to deliver state-of-the-art equipment and provide the highest level of customer service, he said, meeting the needs of rapid deployment and jump requirements in various missions.
The Army's SaaMS pilot encompasses comprehensive managed subscription services, facilitating end-to-end support for connections with commercial teleports and internet services. Intelsat's solution incorporates Intelsat Flex services for **geostationary** (GEO) connections and leverages a reputable commercial **low-earth orbit** (LEO) satellite service provider to offer an additional LEO option. This pilot initiative will deliver global coverage through leased satellite terminals and services, backed by around-the-clock support.
Henry emphasized that the Intelsat system facilitates seamless reallocation of terminals without requiring configuration adjustments or service plans. This adaptability allows for rapid response to multiple missions and operations around the world."
